Accessibility Statement
Home Builders Association of Virginia | Last Updated July 2, 2026Our Commitment
The Home Builders Association of Virginia (“HBAV”) is committed to ensuring that our website at hbav.com is accessible to all visitors, including people with disabilities. We believe that everyone should be able to access information about our programs, advocacy efforts, events, and membership opportunities without barriers.
We are actively working to improve the accessibility of our Site and to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities, including those with visual, auditory, cognitive, and motor impairments.
What We Are Doing
We are taking the following steps to improve accessibility across the Site:
- Providing descriptive alternative text for images throughout the Site
- Using clear, consistent heading structure to aid navigation with screen readers
- Ensuring sufficient color contrast between text and background elements
- Making all functionality accessible via keyboard navigation
- Providing clear focus indicators for interactive elements
- Writing link text that is descriptive and meaningful out of context
- Designing forms with clear labels and helpful error messages
- Avoiding content that flashes or strobes at rates known to cause seizures
- Testing pages with assistive technologies during development
Known Limitations
While we strive for full accessibility, some content on the Site may not yet fully conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Areas we are actively working to improve include:
- Third-party embedded content, including the GrowthZone member portal, event registration tools, and donation forms, which are provided by external vendors and may have their own accessibility limitations
- Downloadable PDF documents available on the Site — including advocacy resources, regulatory references, and local HBA membership forms — which may not be fully screen-reader accessible. Many of these documents were originally created in word processing software and exported to PDF without full accessibility tagging. We are working to remediate these documents over time and will provide content in an alternative format upon request.
- Some legacy content that is being updated as part of our ongoing site improvement process
We are working with our technology partners to address these limitations over time.
Assistive Technologies
The Site has been designed to be compatible with the following assistive technologies:
- Screen readers including NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver
- Browser zoom and text resizing up to 200% without loss of content or functionality
- Keyboard-only navigation
- High contrast display modes
